Exciting news
Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 12:08PM I write with some exciting news! It is with great enthusiasm that we announce that our study resolution passed out of the legislature and was signed by Governor Riley on May 26th. The resolution will establish a joint committee (made of 5 members from each house) that will meet during the interim period to explore the issue of licensing Certified Professional Midwives (CPM) in the State of Alabama. Once the committee completes their study, they will make a recommendation to the legislature as a whole. We are hopeful that this will be a positive step towards the ultimate goal of state licensing of CPMs. Stay tuned for more information as the details unfold.
Also, don't forget that The Big Push for Midwives will be holding Push Summit 2009 in Birmingham July 12th-15th. Head this way for more info.
On Sunday, July 12th there will be a music benefit show at Bottletree Cafe, Birmingham's delightful venue that serves tasty vegetarian/vegan fare. Local acts Vulture Whale, 13ghosts, Duquette Johnston, John Jeremiah Sullivan (Wilmington, NC), and Kate Taylor will be performing. Doors open at 3:00. There will be a $10 admission to benefit the Alabama Birth Coalition. Mark your calendars!
Stay tuned. It's an exciting time! And thanks for your support.
Onward,
Jennifer
