Increasing access to care to

MOTHERS of Alabama.

There is a lot of work to be done in Alabama. Join us in our mission to bring midwifery care all across the state.

Our Mission is to unite and empower maternity care consumers in Alabama to advocate for an informed choice among high quality, integrated, evidence-based services in homes, birth centers, and hospitals.

Creating change is possible. We’ve done it before.

1. We need to reduce infant and maternal mortality, especially among African Americans.
2. We need to increase access to culturally competent, affordable, and respectful care for rural and disadvantaged urban populations.
3. We need to increase access to out-of-hospital maternity care services through state-regulated Certified Professional Midwives.
4. We need to license and regulate birth centers.
5. We need Certified Nurse Midwives covered by all insurance policies and delivering babies in hospitals and birth centers.
6. We need to support normal, physiologic birth in all settings and increase institutional support for Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) options.
7. We need to promote the Midwives Model of Care as the ideal model for improving birth outcomes, reducing disparities, saving costs, lowering unnecessary birth interventions, and allocating highly trained physicians where they are most needed.

Ready to take the next step?

This is a movement of billions. Whether you’re most comfortable contributing time to help achieve our advocacy goals, money to help us grow, or energy to put political pressure on our governments to change, we need you on our team.

“Birth Matters... It matters because it is the way we all begin our lives outside of our source, our mother's bodies. It's the means from which we enter and feel our first impression of the wider world. For each mother, it is an event that shakes and shapes her to her innermost core. Women's perceptions about their bodies and their babies' capabilities will be deeply influenced by the care they receive around the time of birth.”
